WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a part of the division’s Coastal & East Texas Regions team, our Environmental Field Investigator will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

  • Conduct investigative work in the field of Air pollution for the Houston Regional Office.
  • Prioritize, plan, and conduct investigations; prepare reports to document field activities and observed conditions. Assist with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.
  • Conduct enforcement and follow-up activities in accordance with Enforcement Initiation Criteria.
  • Provide assistance and information to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations. Perform other activities, including coordinating and/or participating in the collection of records, data, research, or analysis as a result of public information request.
  • Participate on committees and attend meetings, seminars, or workshops as required.
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field generally preferred, but not required.

OR

  • Four years of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience interpreting environmental regulations and/or reviewing or evaluating environmental permits.
  • Experience conducting inspections and/or investigations.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist II- IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Environmental Investigator II-IV series.
