The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time ,Temporary Not to Exceed 13 months, Lead Food! Service Worker . This position will be located in the Veterans Canteen! Service food operations . As a Lead Food Service Worker , you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:
Performs duties as a working leader that is responsible for ensuring daily requirements and special tasks are completed specified by the supervisor.
Oversees the day-to-day activities of approximately 15 Food Service Workers.
Responsible for assigning, directing, and monitoring daily work activities in support of the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) food production services.
Needs to operate in a manner that reflects professionalism and teamwork in a quality work product.
Articulates instructions received from the supervisor; determines daily/special work requirements; attains necessary equipment or resources to perform tasks and ensures the equal distribution of assignments.
Monitors the work in progress; ensuring tasks are performed in accordance with VCS standards and established time schedules.
Demonstrates pro! per work methods and techniques and trains new employees in various areas within the food department.
May need to address questions and/or resolves problems relative to VCS operating food standards, policies, and procedures.
Assures the safety and housekeeping rules are followed at all times and reports to the supervisor problems, status, and/or progress of daily work activities.
Provides input involving personnel administrative issues or recommends operating changes to facilitate a more efficient productive food department.
Work Schedule: Range of tours from 5:30AM-7:30PM including 8 and/or 12 hour shift. Weekend and holiday rotation will be required; flexibility in day and tour of duty will be required.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must show that they have acquired the experience or training, which clearly shows that they possess the appropriate! skills, knowledge, and abilities of sufficient scope and quality to pe! rform the duties of this position. Your background must demonstrate experience in:
Ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.
Work practices, cleanliness, neatness and sanitation in food service work.
Ability to read, understand and follow food preparation and serving instructional material.
Knowledge of food preparation and serving ingredients.
Dexterity and safety in food service work.
Ability to plan and organize owns work, and the work of other lower grade workers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: The nature of the work is performed in a food service area in a hospital setting and may require the use of appropriate clothing. The work is performed in a kitchen area in above average temperatures and high humidity conditions. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities. This work requires continuous standing, ! walking and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.! Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other coworkers. The selected individual may be performing such work as scrubbing large cooking utensils. Sweeping and mopping floors are performed. The selected individual may be exposed to freezer/refrigeration temperature extremes; working around wet/slippery floors.
