The VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota, where we are known for our blue skies, pine forests, rich history, moderate climate and friendly western hospitality. The VA BHHCS provides primary, surgical, behavioral health, community living center (nursing home care), and domiciliary (residential rehabilitation treatment program RRTP) care for Veterans residing in western South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Care is delivered through the Fort Meade (near Sturgis) and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers, as well as through a number of community-based outpatient and rural outreach clinics. VA Black Hills is part of VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23).

DUTIES:
THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED -APPLICANTSWILL BE REFERRED EVERY THIRTY (30) DAYS
The Black Hills Health Care System is offering a position for a board-certified/eligible General Surgeon to join an established surgical team. The surgeon will be responsible for performing general surgery and endoscopy cases in a practice weighted to outpatient procedures. Duties include providing consultative services to primary care, inpatient, and urgent care. Call is shared with other staff surgeons. Continuity of care is maintained through pre-operative assessment, surgery, and follow-up rounds and clinic visits. The surgeon is expected to maintain an unrestricted medical license and BCLS/ACLS certification. Current competence in upper and lower endoscopy is essential. The surgeon is expected to be capable of a surgery practice that requires careful patient selection for procedures and sound technical skills. The principal practice location is historic Fort Meade in the Black Hills of South Dakota, near the town of Sturgis, within commuting distance of area communities. The Black Hills Health Care System provides surgical care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to inpatient care of standard complexity. Salary will be based on training and experience.
This is a full time position withhalf the time spent at Hot Springs and the other half at Fort Meade.
A relocation/recruitment incentive may be authorized.
