About the role
The role of the Factory Operations Manager is to manage all aspects of the SW Bundaberg processing plant, including the safe and efficient operation of the factory, the employment and wellbeing of staff, site safety and security, process improvement, project development and implementation, repairs and maintenance, budgetary control, compliance with external and internal regulations and directives and the engagement of the Bundaberg processing plant.
The Factory Operations manager reports alongside the Quality Manager at Bundaberg and works in close collaboration and mutual support with the quality team to support the shared aims of high quality production and maximum customer satisfaction. This role also works closely with the Group Sales Manager and wider sales team and with the orchard operations teams throughout the region. It is supported by the finance team, the people and safety team and the ICT team. The role reports to the General Manager Operations.
Duties include but not limited to
- Schedule and plan production to enable on-time delivery of finished goods whilst maximising production efficiencies and crop and labour utilisation
- Set, monitor and report key production metrics including cycle time, changeover, throughput, equipment effectiveness, production attainment, planned maintenance percentage, costs and yield
- Minimise waste, manage records, oversee plant maintenance and drive continuous improvement
- Comply with and set an example to others on the highest standards of WHS
- Prepare and present reports to the operations team and to management as required
- Communicate actively with staff and other managers to optimise operational effectiveness, build team harmony and support staff welfare
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Strong experience in management of a food processing plant
- Strong scheduling and planning, operational and decision-making skills
- Understanding of and commitment to Lean manufacturing
- GMP, HACCP training, food safety procedure training
- Adaptable to change, resilient, can work well under pressure
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Able to work with a diverse range of people and ability to coach and train staff
- Strong problem-solving skills and the practical ability to fix issues as they arise
- Good literacy skills and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Formal qualification in engineering or a skilled trade background would be advantageous
