We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of VP - Business Regulatory Risk & Chief Control Office – Regional Wholesale NFR CoE Cairo

Role Purpose

BRR & CCO function is part of the Wholesale MENAT Non-Financial Risk (NFR) function.

With Functional reporting to the “Regional Head of Business Regulatory Risk & Chief Control Officer” and Entity reporting to the “Centre Director – GSC Cairo”, you will be leading the BRR & CCO team in the Center of Excellence in GSC Cairo.

Aiming to help define and implement the NFR strategy, change agenda and management of both BRR and CCO on behalf of the Global Banking and Commercial Banking Businesses (Wholesale). The role holder will also be part of the “GSC Cairo Executive Committee (EXCO)”.

The Wholesale NFR construct has been brought together in line with HSBC investor commitments in February 2020, and as a result this is an opportunity to shape a key component of HSBC’s future state. This role will play a key part in ensuring the business and product areas remain able to effectively discharge their Business Regulatory Risk and Non-financial risk responsibilities.

The “VP - Business Regulatory Risk & Chief Control Office” will play a key role in all areas related to BRR such as (Regulatory Reporting, Product Governance, Conduct and Customer Experience), as well as all Non-financial/ Operational Risk related matters within the first line of defense as part of the CCO responsibilities.

Principal responsibilities

Non-financial Risk:

  • Maintaining robust oversight of Non-financial risks across Wholesale in MENAT region, including demonstrating compliance with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Driving the adoption of globally consistent policies, procedures, and practices.
  • To develop successful working relationships and drive collaboration with Group, Countries, Second Line, Product partners, and offshore teams.
  • Faces off directly to MENAT Senior Management on risk matters.
  • Leading GB & CMB MENAT Risk Governance
  • Liaising with Internal Audit and second line Assurance during audits and reviews.
  • Responsible for management of Wholesale MENAT Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs).
  • Engaging, when appropriate, with the regulators on behalf of Wholesale MENAT, in partnership with Regulatory Compliance colleagues.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the daily operation and measuring the overarching effectiveness and efficiency of the CCO / BRR function.

Business Regulatory Risk:

  • To play a key part in driving the delivery of the overall conduct agenda for Wholesale Banking in the region.
  • Ensuring the Wholesale Banking business governance enables and facilitates the right level of business dialogue to identify conduct risks.
  • Perform Product Governance accountabilities and support ongoing product governance initiatives (product launch/enhancement/demise, post implementation review, legacy products reviews, annual recertification of the Global Product Inventory etc).
  • Ensure only appropriate products are provided to customers to align to their needs and rationalize the product portfolio for our customers and front-line colleagues.
  • Ensure effective management of Customer Experience, aiming to provide best level of service to customers across Wholesale Banking in MENAT.
  • Execution of the regulatory reporting for the UAE Wholesale.
  • Participate in the annual Tax Reporting across the MENAT region for CRS and FATCA regimes.

Requirements
  • Seasoned risk professional with experience in a leadership positions, ideally within a global financial services organization.
  • Strong leadership skills including mentoring, coaching, motivation, and communications skills to influence and inspire others.
  • Deep understanding of Non-financial risk management, preferably gained through experience in front line, risk roles, consultancy, or audit.
  • Sound knowledge of HSBC Group and the CMB/ GB business, including products, services, systems & processes.
  • Deep understanding of the Group’s Non-financial Risk Framework, Conduct Framework and Product Management principles.
  • Ability to lead change, collaborating with cross-functional teams globally.
  • Highly developed communication, presentation and influencing skills and proven ability in effectively interacting and influencing a wide range of people at different levels of seniority and from different cultures.
  • Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language to audience at all levels.
  • Ability to use strong judgmental skills to identify and resolve complex problems whilst adhering to timelines and quality of output.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently under pressure within a team environment.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with ability to consider alternative and lateral solutions.
  • Analytics skills and ability to perceive, organize, and assimilate information, to allow appropriate management oversight or to assist in making decisions/ evaluate gaps. This should include ability to contextualize data into business activities and conclusions.
  • Proven ability to evaluate processes from end to end, design relevant controls, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Control Indicators (KCIs).
  • Broad knowledge of the external environment (regulatory, political, competitors etc.).
  • Understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviors, processes, and objectives.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills.
