The Cloud Engineer is a recognised specialist for adoption of public cloud technologies using DevOps practices. He/She will collaborate with architecture, development and test engineering teams on business solutions and platforms to drive strategical decisions. He/She is responsible for configuring cloud hyperscalers and components of those environments to integrate with platforms and applications, designing blueprints for multi-tenant platform capabilities, defining tenant roll out strategies, writing infrastructure as a code using different scripting approaches, and designing and configuring pipelines for application and infrastructure releases. He/She will mentor team colleagues through peer reviewing sessions and design reviews.
The role of has the following responsibilities:
- Technical expert to input into strategy for engineering cloud infrastructure and DevOps adoption in a multi-tenant platform by collaborating with multiple engineering teams, with attention to performance, capacity, cost and security considerations.
- Play an active role within the agile delivery team, ensuring evolving infrastructure requirements are identified and addressed in a timely manner, to enable the team to meet its commitments.
- Act as technical role model for peers. Mentor peers, act as peer reviewer and design reviewer.
- Define and implement DevOps strategy and best practices, using automated delivery and testing techniques, taking ownership of such within the cloud domain. Troubleshoot application layer configurations, design and infrastructure integration issues, identifying the appropriate resolving agency or taking direct ownership as required.
- Drive the adoption of cloud technologies domain in Vodafone Business Platforms, creating specific capability within Common Platforms Enablers.
What you bring:
- Excellent knowledge of CI/CD and IaC tooling (Jenkins, Git, Nexus, Ansible, Terraform, etc).
- Comprehensive Linux sysadmin experience, including use of modern web, SQL/NoSQL database and container orchestration technologies (i.e. Kubernetes).
- Programming experience using common scripting languages (Python, Go, Groovy, Shell, etc).
- Extensive experience with cloud hyperscalers and infrastructure best practices (desirable AWS and/or GCP).
- Hands on configuration and administration experience with Kafka.
