Registered Nurse will maintain an active, unrestricted license to practice nursing from an official agency of any of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or a commonwealth, territory of the United States.â¢Shall have a minimum of twelve (12) months experience in a medical-surgical inpatient setting within the last thirty-six (36) months.â¢Shall read, understand, speak, and write English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other health care workers.â¢Shall posses! s knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use ! of word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic patient records, appointments, referrals, and other similar software, as required.â¢Shall have Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and PALS.â¢Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity such that contractor personnel can relate constructively to patients from the Native American community.Scope of Work: â¢The roles and responsibilities of contractor provided nurses are those typical of a hospital or clinic that provides health care such as outpatient and inpatient services for patients, to include obstetrical services, behavioral health, surgery, mobile units, and outlying clinics and health stations.â¢Perform primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients in the Acute Care Setting (Medical/Surgical).â¢Manage supplies and equipment on the unit, and promot! ing teamwork with primary care providers, personnel of other departments and the patient community.â¢Generate and maintain proper medical record information on beneficiaries to whom treatment is provided in accordance with IHS regulations.â¢Assess the biophysical, psychosocial, emotional, educational, spiritual, and cultural needs of all emergency medical, surgical and pediatric patients in accordance with established patient care standards.â¢Plan nursing care for patients utilizing the nursing process and in accordance with established unit standards. Initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of and unit protocols.â¢Administer therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the provider, such as medications, treatments and procedures utilizing scientific knowledge including principles of safety and infection control.â¢Document observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and pa! tient response to treatment and reevaluation of nursing care according ! to unit standards.â¢Operate specialized equipment such as cardiac/telemetry monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, infusion pumps, blood warmers, and the like.â¢Maintain equipment checklists per unit protocol.â¢Consult with primary care providers and other health care professionals on patients to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients.â¢Provide patient and family education, which include counseling and assisting the patient/family to understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment.â¢To function effectively and efficiently as a team member in this environment, the work demands contractor personnel with a high degree of nursing knowledge, skills, and abilities. Contractor management plays a key role in sustaining this high-performing, highly motivated, and responsive nursing support effort that enhances the image of the Indian Health Service and gains the confidence of the supported Native American population.
