The VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota, where we are known for our blue skies, pine forests, rich history, moderate climate and friendly western hospitality. The VA BHHCS provides primary, surgical, behavioral health, community living center (nursing home care), and domiciliary (residential rehabilitation treatment program - RRTP) care for Veterans residing in western South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Care is delivered through the Fort Meade (near Sturgis) and Hot Springs VA Medica! l Centers, as well as through a number of community-based outp! atient and rural outreach clinics. THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICANTS WILL BE REFERRED EVERY THIRTY (30) DAYS
Duties include providing primary care to a cohort of veteran patients in an outpatient clinical setting. This will include taking medi! cal histories, providing physical examinations, assessing recent medica! l studies, adjusting current medications, initiating new medical therapies, and requesting specialty care through consults for this panel of patients. The incumbent will provide pre-employment physical evaluation for prospective employees, annual physicals for employees, physical assessment of injured employees and assessments of employees in need of an evaluation as requested by their supervisor in order to attempt to keep them on duty in case of minor injuries/illnesses. The PACT coverage will be either at Fort Meade or at the Rapid City VA Clinic.
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, Federal Holidays excluded
Relocation expenses will be reimbursed. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.)
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full ! and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Must be board certified or eligible.
Preferred Experience:
1. Board Certification preferred but not required. Special Consideration will be given to candidates with Board Certification in Occupational and/or Internal Medicine.
