Their mission is to provide military veterinary! services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

This is a FLEX 00 position with the Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF). The incumbent performs professional veterinary work that involves the investigation, examination, treatment, and population control of animals. Diagnoses animal health problems; vaccinates against diseases, such as distemper and rabies; medicates animals suffering from infections or illnesses; treats and dresses wounds; performs basic veterinary surgery including spays, neuters, dental cleanings and extractions, skin biopsies and minor mass removals; instructs technicians on patient care; educates clients on preventive medicine, surgical sterilization, weight control, senior care, and pet import for oversea! s travel. Provides emergency care as needed and other related ! duties as directed.

Work Environment: The Ellsworth AFB VTF is a limited-care veterinary clinic offering medical services to the pets of U.S. active-duty military, retirees, and their dependents. Additionally, we are the primary medical treatment facility for U.S. government-owned animals stationed at Ellsworth AFB. The successful applicant can expect to work with the pets of our clientele, with limited exposure to the government-owned animals. We are looking for an experienced veterinarian who enjoys the flexible and challenging environment of working in a military setting. KEY REQUIREMENTS

Performs professional veterinary work that involves the investigation, examination, treatment, and control of animals. Diagnoses animal health problems; vaccinates against diseases, such as distemper and rabies; medicates animals suffering from infections or illnesses; treats! and dresses wounds, seat fractures; performs surgery; and advise owners about animal feeding, behavior, and breeding. Issues health certificates. Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Maintains health records and prepares reports as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).

Must be licensed or able to transfer a current license from an alternate state, (in the state of South Dakota) to practice veterinary medicine and be accredited to issue health certificates.

Highly Preferred Criteria: Knowledge of Small Animal Diseases.

Best Qualified Criteria: Possess previous experience performing Small Animal Surgery.

Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary M! edicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VM! D), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies:

Minimum Qualifications, Highly Preferred Criteria, Best Qualified CriteriaExperience in Clinical Care,Experience in Veterinary Science, Experience in Animal Diagnostics, and Medical Documentation Requirements.

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.

Applicants meeting the best qualified criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection. BENEFITS:
