The VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota, where we are known for our blue skies, pine forests, rich history, moderate climate and friendly western hospitality. The VA BHHCS provides primary, surgical, behavioral health, community living center (nursing home care), and domiciliary (residential rehabilitation treatment program - RRTP) care for Veterans residing in western South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Care is delivered through the Fort Meade (near Sturgis) and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers, as well as through a number of community-based outpatient and rural outreach clinics. VA Black Hills is part of VA Midwest Health Care Network (VIS! N 23). The primary duty station for this position is at the
Hot Springs VA Medical Center.
The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.

DUTIES:
As an independent General Staff Dentist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive dental services to eligible veterans. This includes being competent in routine operative, endodontic, periodontic and oral surgical aspects of care. This position requires excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of oral/dental diseases and disabilities in a patient population! with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals. The Staff! Dentist is expected to be knowledgeable concerning the role of dentistry in the mission of VA and is responsible for understanding and prescribing the extent of care that is consistent with VA eligibility. Duties and responsibilities include delivering high quality, cost-effective dental care to a diverse patient population, which requires up-to-date knowledge, skills, licensure, and experience as a dentist. Position requires skill in maintaining effective work relationships with patients, members of the treatment team, and other services in the organization. Knowledge and use of computer systems related to patient care.

: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
U.S. Citizenship.
Education.
Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. This degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veter! ans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. (2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
Residency or Comparable Experience.
At full grade and above, on postgraduate year of hospital traiing in the form of an approved residency program (general practice of specialty), or comparable experience as a dentist member of a hospital medical staff actively involved in hospital dental care.
Licen! sure and Registration.
Current, full and unrestricted license ! to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience
:
Proficiency in the use of computer and dental software; and, General Practice Residency or VA dental employment.
